A credible source of information is one that takes steps to verify the information it’s providing and/or is an authority on the subject. Credible sources aren’t perfect, but information from them is much more likely to be accurate.

Credible sources are also independent, meaning that the information they produce is not influenced by conflicts of interest. For example, sources of information that have a clear and direct financial stake in a topic are generally less credible as a source for information about that particular subject.
