How are the day’s top stories — those that appear on a news outlet’s home page, the front page of the print edition or at the beginning of a news broadcast — determined?
At daily news meetings, editors discuss the stories that are or will be available, then decide which to feature prominently.
The newsroom’s top editor alone decides what stories to feature.
The owner or a representative from the news outlet’s parent company calls the head of the newsroom to tell them which stories to feature.
The reporters whose stories are finished first generally get them featured prominently.
None of the above.
